A PROUD HISTORY

HOW THE TEAM MADE HISTORY IN 2006

It was the last 20 mins of the very last game of the 2005/06 season, probably the most significant and dramatic in the Reading Leagues 16-year existence, the two leading teams were playing for the Championship on the Final day of the season 


The score at the time was 2-2, Jamie Handscomb had opened the scoring, Marlow came back to lead 2-1 and Pavi Bhangoo had levelled.
in any other circumstances an outstanding result when playing away to the title holders, a result, which would have meant local rivals Marlow United would win the league. Indeed
It would have meant our near neighbours had retained the Senior Division crown for a second term - and it would have condemned Cookham Dean to finishing second for the third year in succession.
As the drama unfolded however it was the Dean who showed the necessary qualities to win an action packed encounter. When Mark Doswell scored a dramatic headed winner with 15 mins to go this small village club had achieved something very special.
It was a game and a finale which you dream of when you are a player - and for everyone involved with the club it was a truly memorable achievement.
For both teams to have been contesting the Championship on the very last day of the Season in such a thrilling manner and in a local derby was fantastic, the match was a proper five goal thriller and Cookham Dean deservedly emerged victorious after an exceptionally good team performance at the end of a superb campaign
