After an even first half in which Cookham hit the woodwork twice Alpha managed to take a 1-0 lead in at the break and soon after the restart they made it 2-0. However a quality finish from DAVE HENWOOD hauled the Old Boys back into it, but instead of carrying on the way they had been playing with a good chance of getting level the Veterans committed too many players forward as the clock ticked on, and this left lots of space in behind for the home side to exploit. As we have seen many times before the aged legs began to tire and in the final 20 minutes Alpha took full advantage and added more goals to run out 6-1 winners. Afterwards in the Barley Mow the players talked about what might have been - but by then most of them would had already forgotten everything that had happened anyway.
