On June 17th 2010 I will be attempting to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats along with my best friend. The journey will take us two weeks to complete at an average distance of between 80 to 90 miles a day. A total distance in excess of 1000 miles.
The reason I am taking on this enormous and very daunting ride is because of a very sad event that happened in 2009. The mother of my son’s really good friend (Karen Berry) was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June 2009. She sadly died on Christmas Day 2009 leaving behind three children Patrick 12, Alice 17 & Rachael 19 and husband Ken.
Throughout this sad time and continuing today all three children have been supported by an organisation called Daisy’s Dream. Daisy’s Dream is a charity that supports children and their families facing and following a bereavement of a significant person in their lives. They have made a fantastic and significant contribution to Karen’s children & Ken and continue to do so today.
"Patrick will be joining Cookham Dean FC next season".
I am therefore dedicating this ride to the memory of Karen Berry and I am raising money for Daisy’s Dream as I feel they are a wonderful and very worthwhile charity. My ‘justgiving’ website is: www.justgiving.com/lejog-steve-andy-2010 I would really appreciate you visiting the website and making a contribution that will be greatly received and very much appreciated.
I will be providing regular updates and pictures on the journey
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
