About the Cookham Dean Youth Section
Cookham Deans well established youth
section have seen many fine young players develop through the ranks over the years. They have all enjoyed being part of something pretty special at the famous old Berkshire Club as the club strive to improve and move forward. Former Senior players who know all about the level of competition have themselves evolved into good enough coaches to teach the boys soccer skills which include everything from the basics to learning how to be a valuble member of a team. Many of the former U18 players have gone on to form the backbone of the Saturday first and second XI's in recent years. One of the players who has enjoyed great success
is former U18 striker Jamie Handscomb now a regular in the Saturday Senior side, scoring twice in the Berkshire Trophy Final Win over local rivals Marlow United at Readings Madejski Stadium in 2005 was one of his many highlights.. Another player to make a big impression within the club is Lee Ovens. During his U18 days Lee appeared in both of the Berks&Bucks Cup Finals that his Cookham youth side reached and has, since moving up into mens football, gone from strength to strength, along with Jamie, he is a regular in the Reading League representative side, and played a big part in the league Championship triumph of 2005/06. In the Saturday Second team in the same season Jon Shaaf another good youth player won the Golden Boot for being top goalscorer as his team won the First Division Title, and turned in many fine displays, finally Pavi Bhangoo, another exciting youth team prospect, was another consistant performer for the all conquering first team as Cookhams Senior squad stormed to their first league title for 17 Years in a team laced with both youth and experience.
These are just a few examples of lads who have gone on to achieve success and make an impression in a good standard of football, there have been plenty of others who have done well and many who will also return to the club, once they have completed courses in higher education, as the club continues to attract plenty of new up and coming players to its ever improving ranks.
