The team had a fairly disappointing start to the season. Both goals and victories were hard to come by in the first three months of the campaign but there was great encouragement when back to back victories were achieved at YMCA in the County Cup and away to Westwood in the League as Autumn closed in, and that showed the team were capable of much more than we had seen up to that point.
The worst weather in living memory meant postponements and no games at all in December followed by only two in January, snow covered the pitch and the fixtures piled up.
However those two games at the start of the new year were both won 4-1 and it looked as if the team had finally turned the corner.
In fact the league form for the rest of the season was as good as any other side in the Senior Division. Some of the highlights included a superb team goal that was finished off by Jon Schaaf in the 2-0 home win against YMCA during a fine team performance.
There was another thrilling victory soon after as the Dean completed the double over Westwood and another outstanding away win at Highmoor.
As the title race hotted up in the closing stages of the season early favourites Highmoor dramatically lost their way, and suddenly no less than five teams including the Dean ( albeit as outsiders) were now in the running for the Senior crown.
Wins against Frilsham, Taplow, and Mortimer kept the pressure on but a disastrous draw away to Berks County Sports cost the side two vital points. Another draw at leaders YMCA, where Louis Shepherd had hit the bar in the last minute, and a rare home defeat in a very good game with eventual Runners Up Woodcote meant that Cookham were destined to finish 5th in the table, just six points off of the Champions YMCA
