After an excellent start to the season we always new that the unbeaten run would eventually have to come to an end, and the fact that it came in the 13th match does not for one minute mean we were unlucky in that game, because on the day we were beaten fair and square.
However there is much to be proud of so far, a lot to build on and a lot more football to look forward to this season.
At the start of the campaign some people might have thought that surviving in the Senior Division by itself would probably count as some kind of success after losing so many players from the first team squad, and all at once in the close season.
But Clarkie & Fergie have played the cards they have been delt extremely well so far and any club in the League would have settled for our record in the opening three months of 2008/9 and the position it has left us in.
But we are not alone in the good start stakes, Royal Mail made everyone sit up and take notice after their storming start and winning streak left everyone else in the shade.
Everyone else that is except Woodley Town.
Woodley, who more than all other Reading League side have impressed everyone who has seen them so far, and they have set their stall out big style this year assembling a very strong squad.
They have an impressive strike force led by the prolific Carl Davies who has scored 14 goals so far this term, a forward obviously destined for a much higher level.
Town have now won their last seven games on the trot, and last weekend trounced Westwood 3-0 in the BTC Cup Quarter Final and so are in top form.
The fact is that if Cookham were to have any faint chance of glory this season then it would be Woodley Town who they would have to overcome in every single competition to do it.
Their QF win at Westwood gave Woodley a BTC Semi Final against the winners of the Woodcote - Cookham Dean tie, and then in the Reading Evening Post Cup, if Cookham can overcome the challenge of Finchampstead, they would once again face Woodley lurking beyond.
Finally to cap off a Cup treble this weekend the Dean travel to Woodley to play in the 3rd round of the Berks & Bucks Cup with the home side clear favourites for this one on current form.
At the moment Woodley sit at the top of the Senior Division and their average score so far this season is 3-1, impressively they have scored over 30 league goals in the league and are apparently brimming with confidence, but they will know, just like we do, that there is a long way to go yet, and nobody wins anything in December, but by all accounts they will certainly take some stopping in between now and May.
